Seven years later, a band of treasure hunters-Yuri Dreyar, Precht Gaebolg, and Warrod Sequen-come to the island in search of the Sirius Orb ( 天狼玉, Tenrōgyoku), a sacred jewel. A violent skirmish breaks out between Red Lizard and Blue Skull ( 青い髑髏 ( ブルースカル ), Burū Sukaru), a rival guild, leaving Mavis the apparent sole survivor alongside Zera, the young daughter of Red Lizard's master. Well, we’ll have to wait and see how that all goes.105 years before the events of Fairy Tail, six-year-old Mavis Vermillion lives on Sirius Island as a servant of the Red Lizard ( 赤い蜥蜴 ( レッドリザード ), Reddo Rizādo) wizards' guild. So now our pre-Fairy Tail team is powered up and the next chapter, I would guess, would be them re-confronting Blue Skull. She had no interactions with anyone save Mavis.

On the Zeira front, there’s nothing that happened to change the status quo on whether she’s alive, dead (as a ghost), or an illusion. But, the current Tartaros arc is all about the Demons of Zeref, so I am interested in seeing how Zeref came to do what he did. It would be interesting and tragic if Mavis were killed by the dark magics she learned from Zeref.īecause I’m not current with what’s happening with Zeref, I do find it interesting that Mashima-sensei is making him a sympathetic character, which is not something new, since we’ve seen this sad part of him before in the regular Fairy Tail manga. I’m not current with the Fairy Tail manga, so I don’t know what other interactions there’ve been between Zeref and Mavis (I recall one where he couldn’t see her, but knew she was there). The way the chapter ends, which are apparently the thoughts of Zeref, indicates that Fairy Tail gets formed in ten days, but that it might have been Zeref who killed her, as he expected. I gotta say, Mavis looks pretty cute as a dark mage. Mavis, who already knew illusionary magic, apparently learns additional (dark) magic. So, a young Zeref is who taught Precht, Warrod, and Yury how to use magic. Mavis wears new clothing and hair style as Mavis the Black Wizard. Zeira appears to learn fire magic.Īfter a few days, the teen leaves, this time with Mavis and company his most treasured memory. He agrees, so Warrod learns Wood Magic, Yury says he wants to learn lightning magic, and Precht is told by the lad that he has a lot of magical talent. Mavis asks him to teach her and her team magic so they can defeat an enemy. He is pleased by this, even if he can’t touch the illusions.

Mavis uses her illusion magic to create a whole host of creatures that cannot be killed by he lad’s curse. The lad says he is happy now in talking to her, but he still worries that he might kill her, something he never wanted to do. Hearing of how the teen travels alone to avoid people, Mavis asks if he’s lonely. The lad is impressed when Mavis identifies what is happening as Akhseram Black Magic, one of the oldest curses known as “Contradictory Curse” since the power of the curse is enhanced by the cursed person believing they are robbing others of their life force. The now depressed lad explains that anything that comes in contact with him dies. Mavis turns to avert her eyes and as the teen male leaves the water to get dressed, Mavis notices the forest around him dies rapidly. While at the body of water’s edge, a teen male emerges from the water, apparently bathing. At their camp, a depressed Mavis goes to get water, lamenting her mistake in dealing with a big wizard guild and wishing she were stronger.
